(CBS) The Blackhawks had a busy Monday in making five roster moves, including the expected and unfortunate placing of 23-year-old rookie defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk on the long-term injury list after he suffered what coach Joel Quenneville called a “pretty bad” leg injury in Sunday’s 6-2 win against the Stars.
In addition, Chicago has recalled defenseman Stephen Johns and goalie Antti Raanta and reassigned forward Joakim Nordstrom and goalie Scott Darling to AHL Rockford.
Darling had just been called up late Saturday night in place of Raanta, but starter Corey Crawford was in goal Sunday night anyway. The advantage was that Raanta received time with Rockford after not playing in Chicago for some time, as he made 33 saves in the team’s 3-2 victory against Texas on Sunday.
Raanta is 1-2-0 with a .933 save percentage and 2.03 goals against average for the Blackahawks.
The 22-year-old Johns has five assists in 16 games at Rockford this season. He was Chicago’s second-round pick in the 2010 draft.
Chicago still has one spot open on its roster. It next plays Thursday at Calgary.
