CHICAGO (CBS) — You’ve probably heard of the Butterball Hotline, but for two years now, Chicago-based Sara Lee has staffed a Pie Hotline.
Jill Houk, a chef with Sara Lee Desserts, said the hotline gets a lot of questions about timingREAD MORE: Man Fatally Shot In Roseland
“The most common question we get is, how soon before Thanksgiving can I bake my pie?” she said. “You can bake the pie a couple of days in advance of when you serve it.”
Houk said a lot of callers are first-time Thanksgiving hosts and hostesses “who really just want to do everything perfectly.”

“We also hear about people who pull a pie out of the oven and then drop it. You know, (they ask) are they still able to serve it then?” she said. “In some cases, that’s actually workable. What our hotline recommends with respect to baking a pie is, put it on a firm cookie sheet so that you don’t have any pie mishaps.”
