Police: Woman Fabricated Story Of Being Stabbed During Jog In Forest Preserve

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A woman who claimed she was stabbed while jogging at a northwest suburban forest preserve may have fabricated the story, authorities said Tuesday night.

The 33-year-old claimed she was jogging on a Deer Grove Forest Preserve path about 4:15 p.m. Saturday, near Quentin and Dundee roads in Palatine, when a man ran up and stabbed her in the abdomen, according to an initial statement from Cook County Forest Preserve District police.

The woman drove to a home nearby home on Quentin south of Dundee, where emergency crews were dispatched. She was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where her condition was stabilized, police said.

But as of Tuesday night, sheriff's officers believe the woman made the story up, said Cook County Sheriff's office spokeswoman Sophia Ansari. The woman did have a have a stab wound, but it appears no one else was involved in the incident, Ansari said.

The sheriff's office is evaluating possible actions, Ansari said.
