West Chicago Man Held On $500K Bond For Fatal DUI Crash
(STMW) -- A west suburban man was ordered held on a $500,000 bond Monday for a fiery DUI crash that killed another driver Friday.
Omar Montoya Medina, 29, is charged with two counts of aggravated DUI causing death, in connection with a two-car crash in West Chicago that killed Antonio Alvarez, a married father of two, according to the DuPage County state's attorney's office.
Both vehicles were on fire when West Chicago police responded at 11:07 p.m. Friday to the intersection of Garys Mill Road and Route 59, a statement from prosecutors said.
Medina was driving northbound on Route 59, and hit the other vehicle in the intersection as Alvarez was turning left, police said. Alvarez, 37, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Medina and a passenger in his vehicle suffered burns and other injuries, authorities said.
Prosecutors claim Medina had a blood alcohol content of .16, or twice the legal limit.
Medina, of the 100 block of East Pomeroy Street in West Chicago, was ordered held on a $500,000 bond at a hearing before Judge Elizabeth Sexton. He will next appear in court Jan. 5.
