Nine Charged With Stealing $21K In Merchandise From Chicago-Area Stores

(CBS) --Police have collared nine people who allegedly stole thousands of dollars in merchandise from Chicago-area stores.

WBBM's Bob Roberts reports that detectives are still trying to determine the full extent of the thefts.
Police won't give a timeline and say these are not the ones responsible for the "smash and grab" theft at the Neiman Marcus store on the Magnificent Mile.

Instead, the group allegedly arrived at stores in vans, walked in, produced bags, filled them with merchandise and ran from the store without paying and sped off.

The group had $21,000 worth of stolen goods in their possession at the time of their capture. Police are trying to determine where they struck.

The nine people charged with felony thefts are Michael Shaw, 40; Tabitha Jones, 25; Lonyae Barr, 21; Dartanya Banks, 33; Kiara Jefferson, 21; Ernestine Lucas, 64; Nicole Lucas, 33; Tenisha Triplett, 29; and Derrel Cooper, 21.
