(CBS) — Angela Grovey graduated from Roosevelt University with a degree in musical theatre.

“I’ve always loved to sing. I’m from Texas but I went to school here in Chicago. I have a special place in my heart for Chicago. I love it. It feels like home,” she said.

After heading to New York a few years after college, she’s back playing Medda Larkin in “Newsies.” Grovey says it’s a thrill to be back with old friends and mentors in the audience but she still has a few Chicago venues on her bucket list.

“I’d loved to do a show with the Goodman, Steppenwolf those are definitely two theatres I’d love to have on my resume,” said Grovey.

Before moving to New York, Grovey performed with the Drury Lane Theatre, the Marriott Lincolnshire and with Chicago Shakespeare. Newsies runs until January 4 at the Oriental Theatre.
