Man Slain During Robbery In West Englewood

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A father of three was gunned down in an apparent robbery Sunday evening in West Englewood.

Neighbors said the victim, 44-year-old Miguel Haro was rehabbing a house with three other men in the 7200 block of South Hermitage Avenue, when Haro and another worker were approached by at least two men. The suspects, wearing all black, demanded their wallets.

Police and neighbors said Haro's co-worker handed over his wallet, but Haro didn't, and that's when the robbers opened fire.

James Moon said he was inside his home when he heard two gunshots.

"I came upstairs, asked my family members did they hear it. I guess they hadn't, so I came outside just to check, and then when I looked down the street, I seen somebody calling the police," he said.

Haro was pronounced dead at Holy Cross Hospital at 6:19 p.m.

"The guy was laying on the ground outside the gate there, with his hand over his head. He was a worker that was working in the second house over there, so the other three workers came out, and they was like, 'Well, He's dead,'" Moon said.

Police said they were searching for the two robbers, and hoping video from nearby surveillance cameras would help them track down the suspects.
