(CBS) — Mayor Emanuel’s campaign has dropped the challenge against Dr. Willie Wilson’s petitions in the mayoral race.

Wilson says he was pleasantly surprised to hear the decision.

“I am glad that he had the heart to pull it down,” he said.

Wilson says he’s ready to hit the ground running and says he plans to make sweeping changes if elected.

Among those changes? An independent police force that he says would report directly to him.

Wilson also wants to replicate the diversity of downtown Chicago ans other parts of the city.

Now that he’s on the ballot, Wilson will be facing not only Mayor Emanuel, but Cook County Commission Jesus Chuy Garcia and Alderman Bob Fioretti.
