Cleanup At Morton Salt Building Could Take Awhile

(CBS) -- The cleanup of that massive salt spill and wall collapse at Morton Salt's storage facility just off the Kennedy Expressway will not be a quick one, reports WBBM's Bob Roberts.

Just removing the buried cars will take five or six days and the removal of the salt a month to a month-and-a-half.

McGrath Acura general sales manager Noble Jones says there is some pretty incredible surveillance video.

"It looks like it is just raining down bricks and salt, so you can't actually see the whole collapse until later in the photo and things have already started to spill out but in the beginning of the video you can only see the bricks starting to break apart and come down."

Those whose cars were buried are driving loaners. Jones says Morton Salt is promising to replace any cars that were damaged. Morton also has reinforced the roof before going in to do repairs to the collapsed wall.
