Boy, 14, Fatally Shot In Rosemont

(CBS/STMW) -- A 14-year-old boy was shot to death Friday night in northwest suburban Rosemont, near the Allstate Arena.

Officers were dispatched to the 10400 block of Carol Court about 8:55 p.m. for reports of gunshots in the area, according to a statement from Rosemont Police.

When officers arrived, they found the victim on the ground with a gunshot wound, police said.

Patrick Boswell, of the 1600 block of Morse Avenue in Des Plaines, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Cook County medical examiner's office said. An autopsy to determine the cause and manner of his death is scheduled for Saturday.

The boy's uncle said Saturday afternoon that the parents were with police.

The uncle, who declined to give his name, said the boy's father went out Friday night looking for him when he didn't come home.

"His dad went looking for him because he wasn't home on time," the uncle said.

Patrick's dad went looking in the squat apartment buildings that sit behind a suburban hotel and the All State Arena because the boy hung out there. The Chicago Wolves played at the arena Friday evening.

The dad "saw the police cars and he wasn't sure what it was so he stopped," the uncle said.

He "had a premonition," the uncle said, his voice cracking with emotion.

Patrick was an 8th grader who loved sports and had one sister, the uncle said.

Recently, the boy brought home a pregnant dog that gave birth to a litter of puppies.

"He's-good natured," the uncle said.

He said the family doesn't know what happened Friday night.

The teen did have gang related pictures posted on his Facebook account and police are investigating whether the shooting was gang related.

Officials with School District 62 said there would be grief counselors available at Iroquis Community School in Des Plaines.
