Rescue Group Seeks Help Finding Dog Who Ran Away On New Year's

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A dog is still missing, one week after it ran away from its would-be rescuers. The rescue group is appealing to northwest suburbanites for help.

Shadow's old family moved and could not keep him. The eight-year-old, 25-pound, black-and-white Corgi mix bolted New Year's Day from a shelter not far from the Busse Woods Forest Preserve, near Arlington Heights and Higgins Roads. He was spotted but eluded capture the next day.

Volunteer searches of up to 16 hours a day have turned up nothing since then.

Young at Heart Pet Rescue's Dawn Kemper says Shadow is timid. But if the dog becomes comfortable with a human, he will obey commands to sit, stay and shake and likes to have his belly rubbed.

Kemper says Shadow did not wear a collar but is micro-chipped. She asks that anyone spotting Shadow not try to chase him, but should call police at the non-emergency number or Young at Heart, at (847) 529-2025.
