DuPage Children's Museum Dries Out After Pipe Bursts

(CBS) -- The bitter blast is finally loosening its grip on the Chicago area. We are up from the negative digits to single digits at least.

But as CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot reports, this slight warm up is not enough for one suburban museum.

It is time to dry out after water converged on the interior of the DuPage Children's Museum.

"It was a large water line that burst and it impacted all three floors of the museum," said Dee Dee McDevitt with the DuPage Children's Museum.

A pipe on the second floor burst Friday on one of the coldest days Chicagoans have seen so far. Cory Hansen of Spectrum Restoration Services says a dehumidification system was being used to bring in dry air and remove wet air.

"We are doing everything possible to move swiftly, with this project to clean the building, to make it safe. We're looking at several weeks before we're able to open the building for the public," said McDevitt.

Some are doing their best, dealing with the extreme cold, like Dave and Jenne Hartwig, with four-month-old son Westin.

"It's really hard with the baby," said Jenne. "You have to have him bundled up and it's been kind of tough with that."

While some are trying to avoid being outside, those taking part in the Polar Dash were enjoying this bone chilling winter blast.

"Start 2015 on a healthy note, get yourself moving off the couch," said James Owens. "Plus, it's a lot of fun and it's crazy, a little crazy."

Sunday has a high of 29 degrees.
