Another Uber Driver Charged In Sexual Assault Of Passenger

(CBS) -- Another black eye for Uber after a passenger levels disturbing allegations against a driver.

An Uber rider says he called for ride in July and then the driver sexually assaulted him.

Prosecutors charged 46-year-old Adnan Nafasat with criminal sexual assault and kidnapping. CBS 2 checked his record, he's never been charged with a serious crime in Illinois before.

The State's Attorney's office says Nafasat picked up the victim and told him to get in the front seat. Then, prosecutors claim, Nasafat forced himself on the victim, drove him to an unfamiliar neighborhood, grabbed the his throat and forced him into a sex act. Then he took the victim home.

Maria Guerra Lapacek, Chicago Commissioner of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection, says Uber needs to make some changes.

"We aren't gonna tolerate this occurring frequently and we want to make sure that we get ahead of this and put processes in place to prevent this from ever happening going forward," Lapacek said. "We're working with Uber X, working though their process to make improvements, because we do think improvements need to be made."

In a statement, Uber says, "We immediately removed the driver from our platform upon learning of the allegations and have been assisting authorities with the investigation."

Nafasat was ordered held $150,000 bond in court on Wednesday.

Last month, a former Uber driver was charged with raping a woman in his car. He was using his wife's account to pick up passengers.
