Broken Main Leaves Some Dixmoor Residents Without Water

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Several residents in south suburban Dixmoor have been without water for more than half a day, after a water main burst Thursday afternoon.

Crews were scrambling to repair the leak amid frigid conditions Friday morning.

All Dixmoor residents west of 145th Street and Robey Avenue had no water service, or only a trickle of water. An 8-inch main burst around 1 p.m. Thursday, due to the extreme cold, causing water to flood the area.

With all the flooding, crews could not see the main to fix it, and have had to pump the water out. As of 6 a.m. Friday, crews had yet to begin repairing the broken main.
