Bad Time For The Heat To Go Out

(CBS) – This bitter cold week is the wrong time to have a problem with your furnace.

But for some in north suburban Skokie, it's salt in the wounds of this winter.

The heat is on to get the heat back on, CBS 2's Brad Edwards reports.

"Our heater just finally decided to die," says Chris Buccola, who figured the temperature in his house was in the 40s.

A couple of homes down, another family was having issues with their heating system.

"This has been a nightmare for us," Sandra Cantz says.

She says it's been an epic journey to get their new heating system installed. Cantz's family, including a pregnant woman and grandchildren, has been without heat for hours.

Buccola's strategy as the temperatures plunge: "I'm going to try to get the fireplace going and see if we can combat it a little bit."
