Danny Almonte Expresses Support For Jackie Robinson West

(CBS) Fourteen years after being front and center in one of Little League baseball's greatest controversies, Danny Almonte has expressed support for Jackie Robinson West squad in the most recent drama that ended with the all-stars from Chicago having their U.S. title stripped away because of residency violations.

"Everybody do the same thing," Almonte told DNAinfo Chicago. "Everybody take guys from different (places).

"Those African-American kids did good, and they want to take that away from them. I don't think that's fair.

In 2001, Almonte was the star pitcher for the Rolando Paulino squad out of the Bronx that took third place in the Little League World Series. Weeks later, it was discovered that Almonte was actually 14 -- two years too old for he age limit. Rolando Paulino had to forfeit its wins.
