Morton Grove Police Ask Public's Help In Solving Fatal Hit-And-Run

(CBS) -- Investigators have the debris from a deadly hit and run, and now they're looking for the driver.

A vehicle hit 86-year-old Richard Mikulec Jan. 12 near the intersection of Harlem and Shermer in Morton Grove last month. The Army Air Corps veteran died from his injuries.

Now, Crimestoppers hopes to generate some new leads. Representatives passed out flyers

"They didn't stop. They didn't see how he was, they didn't try to help -- anything," George McDade of Cook County Crimestoppers said of the motorist who struck Mikulec.

The vehicle that struck the victim is believed to be up to six years old, possibly a GM van or box-style truck.

Witnesses or people with information about the case are asked to call Crimestoppers at (800) 535-STOP. There is a $1,000 reward for good information.
