Defense: Ex-Lawmaker Was Sexually Abused As A Chld

CHICAGO (AP) -- A defense filing says an ex-Illinois legislator in a child pornography case was sexually abused as a child.

Thursday's filing asks a federal judge to impose the minimum prison sentence on former state Rep. Keith Farnham. The Elgin Democrat faces between five and 20 years for transporting child pornography. Sentencing is scheduled for March 19.

The defense filing says an older boy sexually abused Farnham when he was between six and 10. An adult man allegedly raped Farnham after he ran away to New York City at age 13.

A prosecutors' filing later Thursday notes Farnham possessed some images of six-month-old children being raped. But they agree the minimum sentence could be appropriate, taking into account the 67-year-old's lung disease.

The defense has said Farnham may have less than a year to live.
