Alderman Moreno Finds Safe Home For Chickens Dropped Off At His Office

(CBS) -- First Ward Alderman Proco Joe Moreno's office got a surprise delivery Wednesday, reports WBBM's Bob Roberts.

A woman walked mid-morning into Moreno's office with a rooster and a hen.

"The resident picked them up on the 1700 block of North Hoyne and they were running around, they were ducking in and out of alleys into neighbors' yards and so they got lured in, they were captured," said Belia Portillo, a worker in Moreno's office.

Portillo says apparently they were cut loose by a neighbor who thought they were being mistreated.

The chickens went to the right alderman, as Moreno has been a vegetarian for 20 years so they did not end up as dinner. Instead, the no-kill Earth First Farm in Berrien Center, Michigan has agreed to take them in.
