At CSU Mayoral Forum, Chuy Garcia Calls For Luxury Tax

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Mayoral candidate Chuy Garcia unveiled some specifics at a mayoral forum, which featured some fireworks with protesters targeting Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

Right as Mayor Rahm Emanuel took the stage, security removed some protestors from the audience at Chicago State University.

Both Emanuel and his run-off opponent, Cook County Commissioner Jesus Chuy Garcia, spent an hour individually answering questions from a panel and students.

Garcia has been criticized for being vague about how he'll pay for some of his ideas.

Wednesday night, he threw out a new revenue raising proposal: luxury tax. He promised more details on his proposal in future debates.

"I can't say no to taxes because I have been very clear to avoid a property tax increase we have to look at sales, we have to look at a casino and we have to look at an aggressive surplus as it relastes to TIF," Emanuel said.

The predominantly Black audience appeared critical of Emanuel, but many gave Garcia a standing ovation as he made his way out of the hall.
