Paralyzed By Motorcycle Accident, Chicago Veteran Can Now Walk Again With Help Of Robotic Device

(CBS) -- A soldier from Chicago suffered a devastating injury and was told he'll never walk again.

Today, he's proving doctors wrong thanks to his own determination and cutting edge technology.

Roosevelt Anderson is walking again three years after a motorcycle accident left him paralyzed from the chest down.

"It's exciting," Roosevelt said. "I can't wait for this summer to walk down Michigan Avenue."

An anonymous donor gave the Army veteran a $70,000 exoskeleton. He learned how to use the robotic device at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. Now, he's the first Chicagoan to take one home.

Anderson, who competes in air rifle events, hopes to win a spot in the Paralympic Games next year.
