Two killed, Six wounded In Shootings Friday On South, SW Sides: Police

(STMW) -- Two men were killed and at least six other people have been wounded in shootings in a six-hour span Friday on the city's South, Southwest and Far South Sides.

The most recent fatality happened about 2 p.m. in the South Side Englewood neighborhood.

A man, whose exact age was not yet known, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The Cook County medical examiner's office could not immediately confirm the death.

A police source said he was a documented gang member.

About 11:30 a.m., a man was shot and killed while walking near Washington Park on the South Side.

Jerome Anderson, 22, was walking in the 5800 block of South King Drive when a gold vehicle pulled up and an armed male suspect got out, according to police and the medical examiner's office. The suspect opened fire then drove off.

Anderson, of the 7900 block of South Wabash, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later, authorities said.

A police source said he was a documented gang member, and was on parole at the time of the shooting.

The most recent nonfatal shooting happened about 6:15 p.m. in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side.

A 20-year-old man was walking in the 400 block of East 71st Street when a male walked up and fired shots, striking him in the chin, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition had stabilized.

About an hour earlier, a boy was shot on the Far South Side.

The boy, whose exact age was not immediately known, was in the 10300 block of South Wallace when he heard gunfire and realized he'd been shot in the leg, police said. He was taken in good condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Two men were shot at 4:40 p.m. in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

The men, ages 22 and 24, were in a vehicle in the 3200 block of West 60th Street, when they exited the vehicle and got into an argument with at least two other people, police said. The other people fired shots, striking the 22-year-old in the should and leg and the 24-year-old in the back.

They drove themselves to Holy Cross Hospital, where both of their conditions were stabilized. A police source said both men are documented gang members.

About 4:05 p.m., a man was shot in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side.

The 24-year-old man was walking with a female in the 1500 block of West 51st Street when a male fired shots in their direction, police said. The man was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition had stabilized.

A police source said the man is a documented gang member, and that the shooting may have been domestic-related.

About 1:20 p.m., a man was shot in the Washington Park neighborhood.

The 20-year-old was shot in the left foot in the 5100 block of South Prairie, police said. He was taken in good condition to St. Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center. A police source said the man is a documented gang member and a convicted felon.
