Funeral For Teen Shot By Zion Officer Set For Friday

ZION, Ill. (AP) -- Funeral services are scheduled for a northeastern Illinois teenager killed by a Zion police officer.

A Tuesday notice on the Warren Cemetery's website says visitation for 17-year-old Justus Howell starts at 10 a.m. Friday at North Chicago's First Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church. Services begin at 11. He'll be buried in Gurnee.

Police have said Howell was involved in a scuffle while trying to steal a handgun during a street sale just before the officer shot him Saturday afternoon. The coroner's office said Monday the Waukegan teen was shot twice in the back.

Howell was black. The Lake County NAACP has cited Zion authorities as saying they can't yet say what led the officer to shoot Howell.

Community activist Clyde McLemore says he's organizing a Saturday rally to protest the shooting.
