Report: Bears To Meet With Jameis Winston On Wednesday

(CBS) The Bears will meet with Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston for a pre-draft visit Wednesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported.

Chicago recently committed to Jay Cutler as its quarterback, and it's not known how serious the Bears are pursuing Winston. It could simply be due diligence in case Winston falls because of off-the-field character questions, but Winston is still viewed as the presumptive top pick. and an NFL-ready quarterback. It's highly unlikely he drops to the No. 7 spot that the Bears sit in.

Both Tampa Bay at No. 1 and Tennessee at No. 2 have expressed interest in Winston and hosted him for visits. Winston threw for 3,907 yards in 2014 and for 4,057 yards in 2013, when Florida State won the national title.

The Bears also recently met with Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota, a projected top-10 pick, so they're keeping their eyes open for a quarterback of the future. General manager Ryan Pace has said it's a "good idea" to add a quarterback every season.
