Police Searching For Suspect Who Attempted To Lure Two Kids At Schaumburg Park

(CBS) --Police are searching for a suspect wanted for trying to lure two kids at a park in Schaumburg.

At approximately 5:45 p.m., Schaumburg police say a white man in his 30s wearing a bright orange cap and driving a black pickup truck approached the two kids at Jaycee Park.

The man asked them if they wanted a ride, according to police. The girls ran away and the man drove off.

Police released a private surveillance photo that was taken near the area around the time of the incident of a vehicle matching the description of the suspect's pickup.

CBS 2's Dana Kozlov spoke to the two kids and one of the kids's mother about the scary ordeal.

8-year-old Olivia and 9-year-old Kayden frequently play together at the park, but on Tuesday afternoon when the man approached, the two friends got on their bikes and raced home. Their parents immediately called police about the man in the black pick-up truck.

"No single guys driving black trucks just want to give them a ride," said Jill, Olivia's mother. "I have terrible fears over what could have happened to them had they gotten into that truck."

Schaumburg police say they've increased patrols around the popular park.

The kids' parents are keeping a watchful eye, but proud of their children for doing what they've been taught.

"It's remarkable that they two thought on their feet and got out of there," Jill said. "They didn't just say no, they got on their bikes and left which that really humbles me to know that they do actually listen when it means something."

Anyone with information is asked to call Schaumburg police Investigations Division at 847-882-3524.
