Durkin: Best Available Round 2 Prospects

By Dan Durkin--

(CBS) The Bears have the seventh pick in the second round (39th overall) on Friday night, and there are plenty of highly rated prospects still on the board at positions of need.

General manager Ryan Pace talked Thursday about staying true to the team's board and not reaching for need. Sometimes it's easier to stick to that plan when your roster is full of needs, as is the case for the Bears.

Using my big board, here are some notable remaining prospects who fit the Bears' scheme on both sides of the ball.

Defense

* DE/OLB Randy Gregory, Nebraska -- Highly talented but has some character flags.
* S Landon Collins, Alabama -- The top box safety in the draft, stout against the run and is also able to match tight ends up the seam and running backs in the flats.
* DT Eddie Goldman, Florida State -- Can hold the point against the run and has violent hands and long arms to strike and separate. A power pass rusher.
* CB Jalen Collins, LSU -- Character flags. Long arms, quick feet and change-of-direction abilities. Can press and bail, will fight for contested passes.
* DE Mario Edwards Jr., Florida State
* CB Ronald Darby, Florida State -- Character flags.
* OLB/DE Eli Harold, Virginia

Offense

* OT T.J. Clemmings, Pittsburgh -- Extremely athletic, powerful. Former defensive end with great feet for his size. Still learning nuances of playing tackle.
* TE Maxx Williams, Minnesota -- Top tight end in a thin class. Elite athlete, hands catcher, elusive after the catch.
* RB/KR Tevin Coleman, Indiana -- Big, straight-line home-run hitter who's also willing to work in between the tackles.
* RB Jay Ajayi, Boise State -- Power back who carried the load at Boise. Contact runner, so may have durability concerns.
* OG/OT Donovan Smith, Penn State -- Massive frame, long arms. Position versatility.
* OT Jake Fisher, Oregon -- Extremely athletic for his size, will fit well in a zone-based running game.
* OG A.J. Cann, South Carolina -- Powerfully built, natural bend to stay low out of his stance. Strong latch and drive.

The Bears are also set to make a third-round pick Friday night with the 71st overall selection. The second round of the draft begins Friday at 6 p.m.
