Suspect Who Led Police On Deadly Chase Gets 28 Years

(CBS) – The man convicted of murder -- for causing a police chase that killed an innocent woman -- is headed to prison for 28 years.

"I know I'm not a saint, and I know I had an opportunity, and I know that I still have opportunity, but I can't if I'm in the penitentiary," Timothy Jones told a judge Friday before the sentence was handed down.

Back in 2013, Jones led police on a car chase that ended when a police car hit the victim's vehicle. Killed in the crash was 57-year-old Jacqueline Reynolds.

At Friday's sentencing, a friend of the victim gave some surprising testimony, asking for mercy and saying police were responsible for the fatal crash.

The judge called the case a disaster on many levels because despite his challenges, Jones had a lot of promise.
