That meant Science Olympiad coach and sixth grade science teacher Dzevida Duheric was working with limited resources.

But, that didn't stop the thuderbolts from finishing in sixth place at regionals last year - their first year of competing.

After that experience, Duheric says the kids were eager to get working right away on their projects.

So, they finished in second at regionals this year and went on to the state competition at the University of Illinois last month, where they took second place in robo cross, third place in entomology and solar system and two fourth place finishes.

Duheric says so many more kids are interested in joining and she hopes she can channel the excitement into more donations for the group.
