ComEd Ignores Rogers Park Couple After Work Crew Ruptures Sewer Line

(CBS) – A Rogers Park couple is living in raw sewage, no thanks to a mistake by a ComEd crew.

What's worse, they can't shower or even use the bathroom at home.

CBS 2's Mike Parker reports.

"The smell – I don't even know how we are going to get rid of this," says property owner Gia Kosta.

She surveys the raw sewage that has been seeping into her basement for nearly two weeks. The toilet is unusable and she and her husband are afraid to use the water for cooking or bathing.

It began when a ComEd utility crew installed a new pole outside the town home. The pole pierced the sanitary sewer line leading into the residence.

Since April 24, despite phone calls and emails, ComEd did nothing.

"It's just been a roadblock after roadblock," Kosta's husband, George Daker, says.

After numerous calls from CBS 2, ComEd apologized for the damage and promised to make it right beginning on Friday, with the city's help.

The couple is elated, but there's a lot of cleanup to do.
