Michal Rozsival Undergoes Surgery, Is Sidelined 12-16 Weeks

(CBS) Blackhawks defenseman Michal Rozsival underwent successful surgery on his fractured left ankle on Tuesday and is expected to return to hockey activities in 12 to 16 weeks, the team announced. The surgery was performed at Northwestern Memorial Hospital by Blackhawks head team physician Dr. Michael Terry and also Dr. Bradley Merk.

Rozsival suffered the injury in the second period of last Thursday's series-clinching win at Minnesota. The Wild's Thomas Vanek skated past Rozsival, whose ankle bent awkwardly during a turn to make the play.

David Rundblad is expected to play a bigger role in Rozsival's absence.

The Blackhawks will face the Anaheim Ducks in the Western Conference Final, which will start later this week.
