Jose Abreu Is 4th Among AL First Basemen In Early All-Star Voting Returns

(CBS) MLB released early All-Star Game voting returns Tuesday for the American League, and the tallies reflect how poorly the early season has gone for the White Sox.

Among the seven positions in which fans vote on (catcher, first base, second base, shortstop, third base, outfield and designated hitter), only Chicago first baseman Jose Abreu garnered much interest. Abreu currently is fourth in voting among AL first baseman, with 222,228 votes to trail far behind Detroit's Miguel Cabrera (1,347,351) and Kansas City's Eric Hosmer (1,101,738) as well of the New York Yankees' Mark Teixeira (342,788).

Abreu is hitting .277 with seven homers and 23 RBIs.

No other White Sox player is among the leading five vote getters at any position, nor among the top 15 among outfielders. Pitchers are voted on by their peers with input from managers as well.

Fresh off an AL pennant and with a strong start, the Royals dominated the early voting returns, with five players getting a nod if the All-Star Game was today: outfielder Lorenzo Cain, outfielder Alex Gordon, catcher Salvador Perez, third baseman Mike Moustakas and shortstop Alcides Escobar.

Houston's Jose Altuve is first among second baseman, and Seattle's Nelson Cruz is first at designated hitter. Anaheim's Mike Trout joined Cain and Gordon among the top three in the outfield.
