CHICAGO (CBS) — Hundreds of police officers have been hanging out on the roofs of local donut shops on Friday, as part of an annual charity event.
At the Dunkin’ Donuts at Roosevelt Road and Canal Street, cops were gathered in the intersection, in the parking lot, inside the store, and up on the roof, waving at passersby.
“Yeah, they switch arms every once in a while,” said Chicago Police Sgt. Steve Witczak.
He brought a class of recruits to the Dunkin’ Donuts in the South Loop for the 13th annual “Cop on a Rooftop” fundraiser for Special Olympics Illinois
Witczak was fully aware that there are plenty of jokes about cops and donut shops, so they have a sense of humor about the whole thing.
“If you see some of these guys, you can tell they haven’t been eating too many donuts. They’re in pretty good shape,” he said.
