Chicagoans Enjoy First Day Of The Year Above 90 Degrees

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Earlier today beach goers enjoyed the sun and heat, but then the skies opened up and people scurried away.

Wednesday was the first day of the year above 90 degrees. CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot caught up with some Chicagoans enjoying the sun at the 31st Street Beach.

Jaraad Brown found this weather to be just right for a bike ride on 31st Street Beach.

"It's fun! It's pretty easy when you have tires like this. Just take out some of the pressure, have fun!" he said.

Football playing and Frisbee throwing are also on the list for warm weather enjoyment.

"Got to get out here and enjoy the Chicago summer…first 90 degree day.'"

"After that brutal winter, especially working outside, it's nice to come out here, get some sun, work on the tan."

By about 3 o'clock the temperature started to dip a bit. That's when we caught up with Christian Vazquez. Vazquez had just gone into the chilly Lake Michigan.

"It was really cold but it was super refreshing after being in the sun for an hour and a half or so," he said. "It's about time for us to head out of here, but it was nice being out here basking in the sun for a few hours, just getting some of that sun that's disappearing right now, that's been gone for a while, so it's nice to see it back and enjoy it, while it's out."

How cold was the weather? A bone-chilling 53 degrees.
