Martellus Bennett Wonders Why The Same 'Silly' **** Is Being Written About His OTA Absence

(CBS) Bears tight end Martellus Bennett has yet to report to organized team activities this offseason in what's reported to be a contract dispute with the team.

These practices are voluntary, but with Chicago coming off a disastrous 5-11 season and instituting new schemes and principles under the leadership of first-year coach John Fox, it's noteworthy when such an offensive weapon is absent. Apparently not to Bennett, though, who used Twitter on Wednesday to express his perplexion over why anyone would still be writing stories about him being gone.

Following a career year of 90 catches, 916 yards and six touchdowns, Bennett won't report to the Bears without a new contract, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported in April. He has two years left on his current deal. Bennett's set to be paid $4.9 million in 2015 and nearly $5.1 million in 2016.

Bennett's pay puts him in the middle tier of starting NFL tight ends, according to overthecap.com.

When asked if he expected Bennett to be at mandatory mini-camp next Tuesday, Fox responded, "Don't know that." Bennett can be fined for missing mandatory mini-camp.

On 670 The Score on Thursday afternoon, host Dan Bernstein reported that the Bears are "really upset" with Bennett.

"There's a lot of dissatisfaction with him that needs cleared up if he's to come back and be an important part of this team," Bernstein said on air.
