Playoff Beards Not Unique To Guys Who Let Their Facial Hair Fly Year-Round

(CBS) – Things are getting hairy with the Blackhawks in their quest for the Stanley Cup.

Fans and players alike are again refusing to shave until the final victory is Chicago's.

CBS 2's Vince Gerasole reports there's a controversy to comb through.

Many male fans are growing their beards to cheer on the Hawks.

But men like Matt Langlois and Victor Navarrete have been letting their soup-catchers fly for years.

"The last two years I've been letting it grow, for the homeless thing," Langlois says. "I've tapped into some inner caveman."

For hair-rising advice, Gerasole came face to face with Q Brothers in Lincoln Square  -- home to more than 100 types of beard brushes, waxes,  shampoos and scented oils.

"There's been a huge resurgence of guys growing their beard out," Kirk Johnson says. "Where, two years ago, we carried maybe two beard oils, now we have over 30."

The good-luck tradition has grown on the Hawks, too, though an official at NBC, which is broadcasting the Stanley Cup Final, complains the facial hair makes players unrecognizable to fans.

"I feel if a man wants a beard, a man should have a beard," Navarrete says.
