Report: Bears' Martellus Bennett Back At Halas Hall For Mini-Camp

(CBS) Bears tight end Martellus Bennett was back at Halas Hall on Monday for this week's mandatory mini-camp after skipping the entirety of the team's voluntary offseason workout program previously, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Bennett has been unhappy about his contract, having made it known he wants a new deal. It led to speculation that he may hold out, but it appears he's ready to be back in the fold. All the sessions Bennett missed previously were voluntary, but he was the only Bear to miss all of them and he upset some in the organization, considering Chicago is implementing a new system under first-year coach John Fox and Bennett's such a key figure on offense.

After Bennett had a career year of 90 catches, 916 yards and six touchdowns in 2014, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported in April that Bennett wouldn't report to the Bears without a new contract.

Bennett has two years left on his current deal. He's set to be paid $4.9 million in 2015 and nearly $5.1 million in 2016. Bennett's pay puts him in the middle tier of starting NFL tight ends, according to overthecap.com.

Players can be fined for missing mandatory mini-camp, which started Monday with physicals before practice starts Tuesday.
