Mumford & Sons Delay Montrose Beach Concert Until Friday

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Unable to get their stage built on time, Mumford & Sons has postponed their lakefront concert in Chicago until Friday.

The Grammy-winning band was expecting 35,000 fans to attend their show at Montrose Beach on Wednesday, but in a Facebook post Wednesday afternoon said the recent rainy weather kept them from getting the stage set up.

"Despite huge efforts against really unfavourable weather, the local promoters have been unable to build us a stage in time for the show tonight. It takes a lot for us to pull a show, it's something we try to avoid at all costs, but tonight it's just not going to happen. Of course we are devastated," the band said in its post.

Instead, Mumford & Sons said it plans to have the show Friday night, and said all tickets purchased for Wednesday will be valid.

Those who can't make it to Friday's show can instead redeem their tickets at the Waverly Gentlemen Of the Road Stopover in Waverly, Iowa, on Saturday. Details on the Waverly GOTR Stopover are available here.

Refunds will be offered to fans who can't make either of those shows, by clicking here.

"We are so sorry. We are absolutely gutted and more than a little frustrated - this is our biggest ever headline show away from home, so you can understand that for all the days not to be able to do a show, this one hurts the most," the band wrote. "But Friday night is going to be all the more special for it, so we really, really hope you can make it."

CBS 2's Marissa Bailey reports some concert-goers showed and weren't happy.

"But on the ticket it says 'rain or shine' so we don't get that," said Carly Nevarez, a fan from Ohio.

Erin Bluhm and Erin Watson drove in from Indiana for the concert and say rain or shine means rain or shine.

"It is not our first radio, we have been to a lot of outdoor concerts but if it is going to be rain or shine they should honor that," said Bluhm.

In a statement the concert's promoter, Jam Productions, said: "Dangerous weather conditions that began on Monday, along with several consecutive days of rain ... have impacted the crew's ability to get the concert site completed in time for tonight's concert."
