Hammond Man Killed In Lansing Crash

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A Northwest Indiana man was killed Thursday in a crash in south suburban Lansing.

Thomas Kiral, 58, suffered blunt force trauma in the crash at the intersection of 178th Street and Torrence Avenue, according to the Lake County (Ind.) coroner's office.

Kiral was driving a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix southbound on Torrence at "a high rate of speed" at 8:50 p.m., according to a statement from Lansing police.

The Pontiac entered the intersection with 178th and crossed over into the northbound lanes as if it were making a U-turn, at which point it hit the front end of a 2000 Mazda, police said. The Mazda then hit a 2004 Chevrolet that was also northbound.

Kiral, of the 6500 block of Idaho in Hammond, was taken to Munster Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:21 p.m., according to the coroner's office.

The drivers of the other two vehicles were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
