Tornado Touches Down West Of Chicago; Damage Widespread In Coal City

(CBS)-- A tornado touched down Monday evening in Lee County, about 60 miles west of Chicago, and there were also reports of severe weather-related damage in southwest suburban Coal City.

A tornado is believed to have touched down in the community of Sublette in Lee County shortly after 8 p.m. There were reports of multiple people trapped in a vacation community, Woodhaven Lakes. Authorities were fanning out over the large complex overnight to assess the number of injured and the damage to property. At least one person was injured, but it wasn't life-threatening, an official said.

In Coal City, CBS 2's Mike Parker arrived on the scene late Monday and observed damage to homes and businesses. It wasn't certain if a tornado touched down there.

ComEd reported 15,000 customers were without power, mostly in its service region west of Chicago.

Chicago's airports were experiencing delays and flight cancellations due to the severe weather.
