Float Makers Make Final Preps Ahead Of Pride Parade

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago's Pride Parade is less than 24-hours away, but festivities are already underway.

CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot takes a sneak peek at some of the top secret floats.

The rainbow flag and its colors are seen throughout the designs on the floats inside a Southwest Side warehouse. The location is being kept secret because of vandalism in the past.

Groupon and Jimmy Dean are among the participants showing their support for the LGBTQ community through their participation in the 46th Annual Chicago Pride Parade.

Float making is not an easy task.

"Each float, depends on the difficulty, it could take about a week, to two to three weeks to build them," said float maker Thomas Neary.

Neary says he's taken part in the construction of at least 20 floats for this year's parade.

"We start working on the Pride Parade, with the customers, since January and it takes us the whole year to get the floats done," he said.

While rain may keep some away, attendance is expected to be high after the Supreme Court's ruling Friday to legalize same-sex marriage.

The parade route begins at Montrose and Broadway and it then snakes its way south on Halsted to Belmont and back to Broadway to Diversey ending at Sheridan.
