Two Killed In Motorcycle Crash On I-290 In West Suburbs

(STMW) --Two people on a motorcycle were killed in a four-vehicle crash on the Eisenhower Expressway early Sunday in the western suburbs.

The gray 2010 BMW motorcycle was traveling with a group of motorcycles "at a high rate of speed" on I-290 near the Mannheim Road exit a few minutes before 2 a.m. when the BMW lost control, ran off the road to the left, and struck the concrete median, according to Illinois State Police.

When the motorcycle struck the barrier, both the driver and passenger were ejected onto the westbound lanes of the expressway, police said.

The motorcycle also struck a light pole, which fell into the eastbound lanes, police said.

Three cars — a green 1996 Mercedes, a gray 2012 Toyota and a blue 2015 Toyota— heading eastbound tried to avoid the striking the light pole, but were unable to and crashed.

The motorcyclist, a 41-year-old man from Crystal Lake, was not identified pending notification of his family, police said.

His passenger, 21-year-old Miranda A. Valles of Downers Grove, was also killed in the crash, police said.

No one else was hurt.

Traffic was blocked on the expressway in both directions between Mannheim Road and Cicero Avenue until just before 6:30 a.m., police said.

No citations or charges were immediately pending as state police investigate.
