White Sox Add Pair Of Top-30 International Prospects

(CBS) The White Sox added a pair of top-30 international prospects among their four signings Thursday as the international free agent signing period opened.

Chicago's most notable additions were Dominican shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr.  and Dominican outfielder Franklin Reyes. Tatis was the 27th-ranked international prospect, according to MLB.com, while Reyes was No. 30. Both are 16-year-olds.

The son of former major league third baseman Fernando Tatis, Tatis signed for a reported $700,000 bonus. Reyes signed for a reported $1.5 million bonus.

The White Sox also signed infielders Brayant Nova and Santo Vasquez, both of whom are 16-year-olds from the Dominican Republic as well.

"We are extremely excited to add each of these four young men to the Chicago White Sox organization today," general manager Rick Hahn said in a statement. "Thanks to Marco Paddy and the efforts of our international scouting staff across Latin America, we continue to add waves of very talented young players to our system. All of this success will ultimately pay off in Chicago in seasons to come."

The White Sox have a bonus pool of $3.44 million. Teams that exceed their bonus pool must pay a penalty tax. Chicago expects to sign additional international prospects in the coming months.
