(CBS) — Gas prices in the Chicago area are heading lower and this trend may continue.

Crude oil prices tumbled Monday, falling over seven percent, after Greece rejected debt bailout terms and China launched an unprecedented stimulus to give stability to its wavering economy.

“The sell-off in crude oil prices certainly opens the window for further price declines across the region, oil is taking a shellacking here, gasoline values are dropping as well in the wholesale market,” says Patrick DeHaan, Senior petroleum analyst at GasBuddy.com.

He also noted gas prices should trend lower for at least the remainder of the year.
