(STMW) — Police are warning East Garfield Park residents about a violent robber targeting women for purses and jewelry on the West Side.

The first robbery happened about 3:30 a.m. June 29 in the 2800 block of West Flournoy, according to a community alert from Area North detectives.

The victim was walking when the suspect came up behind her and grabbed her purse, police said. He asked for her jewelry, then punched her and took her necklace and earrings.

The second robbery happened about 5:45 a.m. Saturday in the 700 block of South California, according to police. The victim was waiting at a bus stop when the suspect grabbed her purse and pushed her to the ground before running away.
