(STMW) — The Illinois National Guard is warning the public about scammers soliciting donations over the phone in their name.

The callers are claiming to be with the National Guard and are asking for donations over the phone, according to a statement issued by its headquarters in Springfield.

It is against Department of Defense regulations for the Illinois National Guard and all other DOD entities to ask for donations of any kind, the statement said.

Anyone who receives a phone call of this type should report it to local police, the statement said.
