Kane County Sheriff's Deputies Find Raw Sewage, Graffiti After Eviction At Batavia Home

(CBS) -- Sheriff's deputies are accustomed to finding homes in all sorts of shape after people are evicted, but they say one Batavia home topped them all.

At first, it seemed the eviction would be a trouble-free one, says Kane County Sheriff's spokesman Pat Gengler. Then when they arrived at the Batavia home to check on things, they found out the truth.

"When our deputies got there they found that the house was completely trashed," Gengler said. "Probably to the extent that this was one of worst that we've seen."

Gengler says there were holes in the dry wall. Garbage on the floors.

"The basement toilet was broken and had been leaking on the floor for, potentially, two months. There was actually graffiti on all the kitchen cabinets. And the carpet had paint dumped on it."

Not to mention raw sewage.

Gengler says in a case like this, the landlord's insurance company would probably cover things. But as for as whether the former tenants will be held criminally responsible. At this point - that may be doubtful because Gengler says it's often hard to prove who vandalized a place and when.
