One-Year-Old Girl Hospitalized After Fall From Window On South Side

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A one-year-old girl was hospitalized in critical condition after falling from a window of a building in the South Chicago neighborhood Saturday morning, according to a spokesman for the Chicago Fire Department.

The fire department believes the girl fell from a third story window in the 8000 block of S. Phillips around 11:29 a.m. She was taken in critical condition to Comer Children's Hospital.

Witness Andrea McCullum says she was in her apartment, when she heard a loud thump.

"I jumped up, looked out my window. I looked on the side to my car and I looked on the other side and I saw the screen and I saw the baby laying face down on the rocky ground," she said.

She said the baby was, "Bleeding through the nose, mouth, eyes a little bit. Doing a little funny breathing."

McCullum says the child appeared to be home with an 11 and 12 year-old when the little girl fell out of the window.

"As soon as I saw that I started screaming and I grabbed my shoes and phone and called 9-1-1 and my son came out and by the time I came out, the kids were screaming. One came down and had the child in her arms and started running towards the front."
