(STMW) — One of two men who were pulled from the water at Oak Street Beach Sunday afternoon has died.

Police marine unit crews rescued the two about 6 p.m. from the water near the 1000 block of North Lake Shore Drive, police said.

Paramedics arrived and performed CPR before taking them both to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Jose Ortega, 35, of the 5700 block of West Waveland was pronounced dead at 6:49 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The other man, whose age wasn’t immediately available, was listed in fair-to-serious condition.
