Rare Barbie Dolls From Zion Woman's Estate Up For Auction

(CBS) -- Two thousand rare Barbie dolls, from the estate of a Zion woman, are up for auction, starting today, reports WBBM's Regine Schlesinger.

Janice Pye, who died about a year and a half ago, left behind a huge collection of Barbies. Bonnie O'Donoghue with Leslie Hindman Auctioneers in Chicago, says these aren't run-of-the-mill Barbie dolls.

"She was buying all of these modern Barbies in collectors' editions at conventions around the country," O'Donoghue said. "She went to Paris and met the designers who were making these couture gowns for special Barbies."

She says many of the dolls are extremely rare.

"Probably the most valuable one that we have is of Marie Antoinette and it's a platinum label which means that less than I believe 1,500 were ever made," O'Donoghue said.

Online bidding is underway and runs through August 14. To view the entire catalogue, click here.
