Skokie Woman is Chicago Area's First West Nile Case This Year

(CBS) – The first human case of West Nile virus in the Chicago region this year has been reported, in Skokie.

A 50-year-old woman who resides in the north suburb has been diagnosed with the mosquito-borne illness.

The Skokie Health Department says her condition is improving.

Officials are growing more concerned since mosquitoes tested positive for the virus last month.

Authorities recommend wearing insect repellent and getting rid of any standing water on your property.
